Workshops

  • This workshop is focused on exploring the intangible feeling of loneliness, and putting it on the page. In this space we use the musical lyrics of Mitski, noname, and others to ground us in our exploration. Here, we get closer to the individual truths of this collectively-felt phenomena, by questioning (many things including..) how our social positionalities impact our experience of loneliness; and by the end, hopefully, we become less isolated through speaking on it.

  • In this space we will be using guided meditation, writing prompts, group discussion and music in order to reconnect with the selves that we were while in transition. What do you think about when you think of middle school? Your 'tween self? Let's talk about it.

  • Item We often hear the phrase "the body knows," but how often do we truly pause to listen to our body-wisdom? This workshop will be offering a moment of pause and mindful connection with the body; we will be utilizing deep-breathing, slow intentional movement, and a study of Alan Pelaez Lopez’s poetry to guide us in an exploration of what poetry our bodies have to share with us.

  • In this generative workshop, we will explore the landscapes and emotionality of our personal moon signs. What does it mean to have your inner world characterized by flames, floods, or earthquakes? If one were to enter into your inner-universe and experience the world that your heart orbits around, what would that be like? Come write about the quality of your heart using the moon as a muse!

*Basic understanding of astrology suggested for this workshop (knowing your SMR/having looked up your birth-chart previously in wheel form on astro.com) I will use the houses, elements, modalities, and medical astrology to prompt us into deeper poetic contemplation.

  • What if we looked at grlhood as expansion? What wisdom would our younger selves tell about an understanding of grlhood beyond colonial gender hierarchies? About being the Self before you knew there was anything else to be? In this workshop we will be using the revolutionary poetry and writing of Zenaida Peterson, Toni Cade Bombara, and Zora Neale Hurston to guide us in writing toward freedom.
